This paper presents a detailed review of both theory and algorithms for the Cheeger cut based on the graph 1-Laplacian. In virtue of the cell structure of the feasible set, we propose a cell descend (CD) framework for achieving the Cheeger cut. While plugging the relaxation to guarantee the decrease of the objective value in the feasible set, from which both the inverse power (IP) method and the steepest descent (SD) method can also be recovered, we are able to get two specified CD methods. Comparisons of all these methods are conducted on several typical graphs.

In this paper, we apply Hirota's discretisation to a three-dimensional integrable Lotka-Volterra system. By analyzing the three-dimensional modified equation of the resulting numerical method, we show that it is volume-preserving, and has two independent first integrals. Moreover, it can be formally reduced to a system in one dimension via a volume-preserving transformation. If the given initial value is located in the positive octant, we prove that the numerical solution is confined to a one-dimensional connected and compact space which is diffeomorphic to a circle.

The orthogonal multi-matching pursuit (OMMP) is a natural extension of the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP).We denote the OMMP with the parameter $M$ as OMMP($M$) where $M$ ≥ 1 is an integer. The main difference between OMP and OMMP($M$) is that OMMP($M$) selects $M$ atoms per iteration, while OMP only adds one atom to the optimal atom set. In this paper, we study the performance of orthogonal multi-matching pursuit under RIP. In particular, we show that, when the measurement matrix $A$ satisfies (25$s$, 1/10)-RIP, OMMP($M_0$) with $M_0$ = 12 can recover $s$-sparse signals within $s$ iterations. We furthermore prove that OMMP($M$) can recover $s$-sparse signals within $O(s/M)$ iterations for a large class of $M$.

We consider the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape of a thin dielectric infinite cylinder having an open arc as cross section. Assuming that the electric field is polarized in the TM mode, this leads to a mixed boundary value problem for the Helmholtz equation defined in the exterior of an open arc in $R^2$. We suppose that the arc has mixed Dirichlet-impedance boundary condition, and try to recover the shape of the arc through the far field pattern by using the factorization method. However, we are not able to apply the basic theorem introduced by Kirsch to treat the far field operator $F$, and some auxiliary operators have to be considered. The theoretical validation of the factorization method to our problem is given in this paper, and some numerical results are presented to show the viability of our method.

This paper is concerned with the finite element method for the stochastic wave equation and the stochastic elastic equation driven by space-time white noise. For simplicity, we rewrite the two types of stochastic hyperbolic equations into a unified form. We convert the stochastic hyperbolic equation into a regularized equation by discretizing the white noise and then consider the full-discrete finite element method for the regularized equation. We derive the modeling error by using "Green's method" and the finite element approximation error by using the error estimates of the deterministic equation. Some numerical examples are presented to verify the theoretical results.
